The Autumn is very late this year, after a unusually cold October the chance of a colourful autumn looked unlikely however after a mild and damp week the change has been instant. Bright yellows and deep oranges now dominate the landscapes to the brooks, Shaugh Prior is a relatively new location for me, situated on the southern edge of the moors it benefits from the rainfall that runs off the higher ground into the Plym valley. I hope to stop by again to capture more of this vast woodland.

Location

Shaugh Prior, Devon, UK

I had no idea such woodlands existed in the UK!

How many places are there like this in Britain?

Well I knew of some large forests in Scotland but I spent a brief time in the English countryside at Stratford-upon-Avon and the area seemed to be all open fields, grassland, and rolling hills; not many trees except ones that were obviously planted. I had thought that the forests in England were all but cut down centuries ago.

I used to live near Stratford and yes the woodlands are unfortunately few and far between, however there are some amazing places no more than an hours drive away. The greatest thing about this country is although it's small we have a hugely diverse landscape that changes rapidly and you don't have to go far for a photo opportunity ;)
