Golden Fur

Sometimes I forget the scale of Dartmoor national park, as I've spent many years exploring the fringes and the easily accessed locations it's easy to forget the true scale of this beautiful location. I was planning on spending the week in Snowdonia but due to poor weather forecasts the trip was called off. Instead I joined up with =Alex37 and planned a wild camp at Dartmoor's most remote tor, Fur Tor. Also known as the Queen of the Moor it boasts one of the most stunning views around. The trek there isn't a walk in the park as the majority of rivers the run off Dartmoor are sourced on or around Fur tor, resulting in some very boggy ground which is tricky in the driest times of the year let alone in winter.

We camped on the snow which was a first for both of us but luckily the temperatures never dropped far below freezing however due to snow/hail showers and strong winds it wasn't pleasant.

After a night of strong winds and hail/snow storms the weather cleared in time (only just) for sunrise. I was a little hesitant about this composition however as it grew on me the textures of the ice and golden colour of the grasses made it too good to overlook.
